Our Ongoing Energy Development Call to Actions 

Project Purpose:

This project is aimed at significantly increasing reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity access in Kwara South Senatorial District through the development and deployment of a 10MW distributed renewable energy mini-grid hub. This project will directly contribute to the World Bank’s Mission 300 objectives by creating economic opportunities, enhancing livelihoods, and bolstering social services in underserved communities, fostering a sustainable and resilient local economy.

Project Objectives in line with Mission 300 goals 

Expand electricity access

Target: Provide improved electricity connections to households, businesses, schools, and health clinics in off-grid and underserved areas of Kwara South.

Contributions to Mission 300: The Clean Energy hub center project will directly increase the number of people with access to reliable energy, a key metric of the initiative. 

Drive economic growth through productive use of energy (PUE)

Target: Power small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, and trade. The project will include programs to finance equipment and provide training on using the new energy supply to increase productivity. 

Contribution to Mission 300: Prioritizes energy that creates jobs and increases income, supporting the growth of local industries and reducing poverty.

Accelerate Clean Energy Transition

Target: Generate clean, solar-based electricity to displace reliance on fossil fuels, such as expensive and polluting diesel generators, thereby reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality.

Contribution to Mission 300: Aligns with the mission’s goal of accelerating the transformation of Africa’s energy sector towards diversified and cleaner sources.

Promote public-private partnership and investment 

Target: Establish a commercially viable and scalable model for mini-grid deployment that attracts private sector investment to expand the hub beyond its initial 10MW

Contributions to Mission 300: Exemplifies the initiatives strategy of leveraging public and private finance to fund distributed renewable energy projects at scale.

Enhance community resilience and social Services.

Target: Ensure critical infrastructure, including health facilities and educational institutions, has access to resilient and stable power.

Contribution to Mission 300: Improves quality of life by ensuring reliable power for essential services, making communities better equipped to withstand and recover from external shocks
